Chairs Like Pink Elephants @your Library

Last (rather gray and damp) weekend there were coffee shops …

… and cup cakes.

In addition to showing me a bit of the city, and stopping for treats, my friends showed me their new libraries.

Because I am a nerd, this is better than a trip to Disneyland. First, the recently opened branch of the Cedar Rapids Public Library. There’s some seriously fab seating in the children’s area. At least if you like elephants. Which I do.

Even better — the work in progress that will be the new downtown Cedar Rapids Public Library. A glimpse of the exterior:

And inside, too. The seriously cool floating conference room:

The ground floor’s (eventual) park view. A bit muddy just now:

The teens’ space fire place:

The second-floor staff area and one of many, many windows:

A balcony for when warmer weather comes:

Above it all, the curved auditorium ceiling …

and the roof, with its views. Eventually, there’ll be seating, cisterns, and greenery. For now, Bob (CRPL director), and Vickie and Katie pretending it isn’t about to rain.

For now, some wonderfully artful railings that I’ve not yet figured out how to photograph:
