How My Garden Grows

There were glorious sunflowers at the farmers market this morning, and everyone — that is, everyone without herbicidal cats — was bringing them home.   

     

My cats find plants irresistible, so I only attempt them outdoors.  This hasn’t been a brilliant season for my garden.  A few promising tidbits, like the first bloom of the clematis Avant Garde: 

  
A paler than pale balloon flower:

  
And these surprise lilies, which I’d forgotten:

  
Only they’re a sure sign that summer is heading toward its finale, like an approaching sunset:
