It has been the summer of rain. While the weather has been discouraging to the sun-loving among us, it hasn’t discouraged the birds. The only time I’ve had a decent camera at hand, though, I was indoors due to the rain, and one of the hummingbirds that frequents the deck was on the other side of the door. Hence, the closest thing to a close-up of these little jewel-toned visitors is a compromised shot on a dreary day.
When the sun comes out, it’s been spectacular. The residue of the rain brings that line of e.e. cummings to mind: “nobody, not even the rain, has such small hands.” Because the diminutive drops that hesitate on the leaves, are so small,
and so compelling,
and the way the mimosa fronds are dashed to the ground, a stunningly fragile gesture.
