Not Even the Rain

hummingbird visiting hibiscus in the rainIt has been the summer of rain.  While the weather has been discouraging to the sun-loving among us, it hasn’t discouraged the birds.  The only time I’ve had a decent camera at hand, though, I was indoors due to the rain, and one of the hummingbirds that frequents the deck was on the other side of the door.  Hence, the closest thing to a close-up of these little jewel-toned visitors is a compromised shot on a dreary day.

When the sun comes out, it’s been spectacular.  The residue of the rain brings that line of e.e. cummings to mind:  “nobody, not even the rain, has such small hands.”  Because the diminutive drops that hesitate on the leaves, are so small,
